Creating safer communities

Following the return of the Online Safety Bill to the House of Commons, Laura spoke in favour of the Bill.

In Parliament, Laura spoke in support of Greg Clark's 'Protection from Sex-based Harassment in Public Bill'. The Bill intends to protect people (mainly women and girls) from public sexual harassment, alarm or distress and Laura welcomed and supported the Bill at it's Second Reading. 

Five years since it was first announced and after numerous redrafts, the Online Safety Bill returned to the Commons on Monday to begin its final legislative stages. This landmark Bill deals with a wide variety of issues but there is one overriding harm that must be addressed.

With the return of the Online Safety Bill to Parliament, Laura spoke in support of the Bill and the proposed New Clauses for furthering the protection of children online.

Following on from previous work undertaken in Parliament on the Domestic Abuse Act, Laura has presented a Private Members Bill to Parliament that would amend the Sentencing Code to provide for a minimum sentence for cases of manslaughter which are sexually-motivated.

Women’s safety in West Berkshire and, indeed, across the whole of the country has been a hugely important priority for me since I was elected in 2019.

Laura hosted a roundtable meeting with representatives from Thames Valley Police, West Berkshire Council, Great Western Railway (GWR) and the Newbury BID to discuss the safety of women and girls across Newbury and West Berkshire.

During questions to the Leader of the House of Commons, Laura raised the issue of hare coursing, described by one local farmer as 'rural terrorism', and the impact it has been having on communities in West Berkshire.
