With the return of the Online Safety Bill to Parliament, Laura spoke in support of the Bill and the proposed New Clauses for furthering the protection of children online.
In her speech, Laura expressed concern about the rising number of young people with access to online pornography - citing figures that show that between 2008 and 2011 the number of children that had watched online pornography had risen from 14% to 49% - and the impact this has had on violent and pernicious offline activity.
Laura also welcomed "the principle" of new clause 28 which would establish an advocacy body to represent and protect children online, and she called for the establishment of a pornography harms review (in a similar vein to the 2019 Gambling Review) to look into and assess the impact of pornography on young people.
