On Tuesday 11 June, the Conservative Party published its manifesto. Laura said:
"Today, I was joined by my friend Laura Trott who is Chief Secretary to the Treasury and we went through three items from the manifesto that have come up on the doorstep:
1. Childcare - our manifesto reaffirms our commitment to free childcare between 9 months and the start of school.
We have already started implementing this: 2 year olds already qualify (and 200,000 are enrolled) and the scheme is open to all little ones from 9 months up from September.
This will save the average working household £6900 per year. Find out if you are eligible at www.childcarechoices.gov.U.K.
2. Pensioners - the triple lock has seen the state pension go up by £3700 since 2010. In our manifesto we have pledged that we will never tax the state pension however high it goes up. This is a clear distinction with Labour who have refused to match our pledge
3. Young people - you might have spotted that the manifesto was launched at Silverstone. When the Prime Minister visited Xtrac in Thatcham he talked to their talented apprentices in manufacturing and engineering about opportunities on Formula 1. Today he announced a further 100,000 high quality apprenticeships and - for all first time buyers, there will be no stamp duty on any property up to £425,000 giving young people an important tax break as they get on the property ladder."
