Laura welcomed the Veterans' Affairs Minister, Johnny Mercer, to Thatcham this week.
The Minister came to Thatcham Rugby Club to meet with veterans, service leavers and representatives of charities that support the veterans’ community in West Berkshire.
Speaking about Johnny Mercer, Laura said:
"Since he arrived in 2015, he has managed to set up a new Government Department Office for Veterans' Affairs and secure millions of pounds in funding on everything from veterans housing, mental health services and employment support. He was genuinely so moved by some of the stories he heard today from West Berkshire’s heroes who came along. He is determined that this country will be the best place anywhere in the world to be a veteran."
In attendance were representatives of Newbury and Thatcham Veterans’ Breakfast Club, the Newbury, Hungerford and Lambourn branches of the Royal British Legion, the Royal Artillery, SSAFA, Supporting Wounded Veterans, Models for Heroes, Mission Motorsport, Career Force, 77th Brigade at Hermitage Barracks, AWE veterans and reservists, and the RAF Association.
