Laura again raised the issue of fuel prices in the Newbury constituency, which remain higher than in neighbouring areas.
Earlier this year, as part of a long-standing campaign, Laura wrote to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) to raise concerns about disproportionately high fuel prices in West Berkshire and contribute to their road fuel market study.
Following today’s publication of the CMA’s final report, Laura welcomed the proposed new fuel finder scheme to enable drivers find the cheapest fuel locally, but called on the Minister for Energy Security and Net Zero to go further, to ensure that consumers are aware as to whether their area has disproportionately higher or lower fuel prices than the rest of the country.
Commenting, Laura said:
“For too long, constituents have been subject to unfair fuel prices at the pumps in Newbury. Given the findings of today’s report, it is crucial that there is transparency for consumers so that concerns of unfair fuel pricing can be raised at the highest level.”
