To build upon her work on the Domestic Abuse Act, Laura met with the Justice Secretary, Dominic Raab MP, and Minister of State, Victoria Atkins, to discuss the sentencing of violence against women.
Laura said:
"For anyone who cares about violence against women, it has been hard to read some of the cases that have hit the headlines in the last few years. Sophie Moss, Laura Huteson, Natalie Connolly (to name just three) - all killed in acts of sexually-motivated manslaughter, always with extreme violence & always in the most degrading way.
"In each case (& several others) their killers received sentences of between 3 to 6 years (broadly equivalent to the maximum for pet theft). I am determined that the criminal justice system punishes these crimes far more seriously and that the families get the justice they deserve."
