On Tuesday Laura spoke to GWR's Managing Director Mark Hopwood and Network Rail's Western Route Director Marcus Jones to ask what they are doing to urgently address the issues with services to and from London Paddington. Laura said:
"I know GWR services have been disappointingly substandard over recent months with frequent delays, cancellations, and not enough carriages on busy commuter services.
It was encouraging that both GWR and Network Rail recognised that both an immediate and long-term improvement plan is needed. Since mid-February, engineers have been carrying out remedial work to the tracks, signalling and overhead wires - closing two of the four tracks in the late evening. This will of course cause some delays in the short-term and we will not see the results overnight.
I therefore also asked for greater transparency between train operators and passengers on the reasons for delays, and when delays can be expected.
I will continue to push GWR and Network Rail for improvements until we see results and passengers can benefit from a reliable service."
