On Tuesday Laura met the Gambling Minister Stuart Andrew to discuss the local horseracing industry's concerns about proposals for financial risk checks for gambling.
Laura said:
"The horseracing industry employs approximately 1000 people in West Berkshire (generating some £20 million annually in the local economy).
Racing has a unique and interdependent relationship with betting, not least because it is one of the only sports to receive funding through the Betting Levy.
The proposals for '"affordability checks" will apply to online gambling and in the meeting I reiterated to the Minister concerns from the industry about the significant impact on racing's finances.
I have invited the Minister to Lambourn to hear from racing trainers directly and he will be visiting later this month."
