On Wednesday morning, Laura attended the Back British Farming Day Parliamentary Reception to show her support for British farming.
Laura said: "In the week that the Newbury Show returns to West Berkshire for the first time in 4 years, it was a real pleasure to welcome the great National Farmers Union (NFU) to Parliament for a celebration of British farming."
Laura is also supporting the cross party campaign calling on supermarkets to highlight British produce by incorporating a ‘Buy British’ section on their online store. Laura has signed an open letter to supermarket chief executives asking them to create a tab collating produce from across the UK so customers have the choice to buy British during their online shop. She is one of nearly 120 MPs to sign the letter organised by her colleague Luke Evans.
In a boost to the campaign, the government announced it would support the measure during Wednesday’s Back British Farming Day. Laura said:
“Farmers and producers are a huge part of the Newbury constituency. Anything that can help them is important and I am very pleased to support this campaign. It proposes a simple measure to allow online supermarket grocery buyers the chance to support our farmers and buy British. The campaign has gained real momentum with the support of the government and the NFU. I hope the supermarkets will look closely at implementing the measure.”
