Laura Farris MP has celebrated the National Farmers Union's (NFU) Back British Farming day in Parliament, meeting with the NFU President Minette Batters to discuss West Berkshire's farms and farmers.
The Back British Farming day provides an opportunity for the industry and Members of Parliament to recognise the importance of farming and the agricultural sector, which provides jobs for almost 4 million people and is worth more than £120 billion to the national economy.
Alongside recognising the work farmers do for the nation, Back British Farming Day provides the perfect opportunity to acknowledge important contributions farmers make to their communities. This year the NFU has introduced the Community Farming Heroes award to celebrate the farmers who have gone above and beyond for their local community.
As part of this initiative, Laura nominated local farmer Eleanor Gilbert as her Community Farming Hero, recognising the work she has done to raise awareness of the importance of farming to West Berkshire's community and local economy.
