On 6 June, Laura attended the ceremony at Greenham Control Tower to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
“The eyes of the world are now upon you” said General Eisenhower, addressing America’s 101st Airborne Division at Greenham Common, the night they took off from Berkshire.
The following day those young men were dropped by parachute onto the western flank of the invasion to assist in the seaborne assault on the beaches. Many of the drops were inaccurate, and who knows how many of these young men ever came home? Very few I imagine.
Today, in an incredible ceremony at the Greenham Control Tower we honoured their memory and gave profound thanks for their sacrifice during the D-Day landings.
