Following Laura's letters to both Sainsbury’s and Tesco in relation to fuel prices at their main superstores in Newbury, she has now received a reply from Sainsbury’s which you can read below.
Speaking about the reply, Laura said:
"I know that this reply - which I am sharing will not alleviate your concerns that providers are taking advantage of the constituency's reasonably rural location, the high level of car use, and the considerable distances required to travel to larger conurbations for cheaper prices. I have responded to Sainsbury’s to make this point & challenged them as to why we remain more expensive than our surrounding areas. I will keep you all updated on any further replies I receive.
I copied the CMA into both of my letters, who confirmed that the contents has been noted by their fuel prices project team. On 15 November, new amendments were tabled to the Digital Markets, Competition & Consumers Bill under which CMA will become the body responsible for closely monitoring road fuel prices and reporting any sign of malpractice to the Government."
