This week I am launching the West Berkshire Community Champion Awards to celebrate the individuals and businesses from our area who have gone above and beyond for their community during this crisis.
Each week I’ll announce two Community Champions on my Facebook Page, write a post about their work, and when this is over we’ll host a special event in the House of Commons to celebrate them and all that they’ve done.
I’ve been overwhelmed by the response that has sprung up across the constituency, which has extended into every village and town. From the army of volunteers providing food boxes, delivering hot meals, picking up prescriptions and keeping in touch on the phone, to the supermarket workers and our town, parish and county councils. I hope that the Community Champion Awards will help to recognise and thank the people and businesses who have been carrying out such extraordinary acts of kindness in our community.
Anyone can submit a nomination. If you feel there is someone who has gone above and beyond for our community, please send your chosen nomination to me at laura.farris.mp@parliament.uk with why you think they are a community champion, and their contact information (with their permission). I will make the first announcement on Monday 4 May.
