I am pleased to invite you to a pre-COP climate summit for West Berkshire which I am hosting via Zoom on Friday 16 July at 2 – 3:30pm.
As you will no doubt be aware, the UK will be hosting the UN Climate Change Summit, known as COP26, this year in November in Glasgow. It is a critical year for climate change and this will be the most important climate summit since the landmark Paris Agreement was agreed at COP21 in 2015.
I am hosting this event in the lead up to COP26 to bring together residents, community groups, national and local experts. We will be hearing about some of the issues facing West Berkshire as well as some of the fantastic projects already underway to tackle climate change. Confirmed speakers include:
- Lord Benyon - Minister for Rural Affairs and Biosecurity
- Cllr Steve Ardagh-Walter - Executive Member for Environment, West Berkshire Council
- Dr Prue Addison, Conservation Strategy Director, Berks, Bucks, and Oxon Wildlife Trust (BBOWT)
- Anna Forbes, Project Officer, Action for the River Kennet
The summit will also be a chance to explain what the UK will be seeking to achieve in terms of climate change and what to look out for in the lead up to COP26. This is an opportunity for local residents to share their concerns and ideas with me and, following the summit, I will be writing to COP26 President, Alok Sharma, to summarise the issues.
I very much hope you will be able to join me. Please RSVP by filling out the form below.
